Nikki Sixx playing an Ovation A/E?

While doing some research on lightweight bass guitars. I came across
this article on Ovation's website:
It states that Nikki Sixx played an Ovation acoustic/electric bass on
Motley Crue's "Red. White and Crue" tour. The first question I had
when reading this was "why?" - why would Nikki want to play an
acoustic/electric? Does he maybe have a bad back? The second question
I had was "how?" - how did he manage to get a tone with an Ovation
acoustic/electric that would work for Motley Crue's music?
Does he maybe have a bad back?
About six months ago I started seeing ads for Ovation w/Nikki Sixx
and I was wondering the same thing. I thought they must be going soft if
they are using an Acoustic/Electric.

In answer to the 'why? perhaps you ought to consider that NS has
probably received a King's ransom for endorsing this product. so maybe
his conscience will kick in he'll use his paymaster's product once in a
while. If Ovation came to me (which is unlikely! I'd take the money
and play the thing. TBH honest 'Nikki Sixx and Ovation' are as unlikely
a pairing as a 'George'n'Osama' comedy duo.
